The sky maybe blue, but don't be deceived, there is a definite chill in the air. The winds can be icy almost chilling you to the bone. Jack Frost is nipping at more than your nose. It's time to wrap up well. A winter coat is a staple piece for every woman's closet. But what do you look for when buying a winter coat?
The first thing to consider when buying a coat is to look at your lifestyle. By this I mean; are you a mom constantly on the school run? Are you an executive in a busy firm? Do you drive to most places? Do you take the sub-way? The style of winter coat does not depend entirely on your budget (although a major consideration to take on board), but your lifestyle, when are where you will be wearing it.
A good piece of advice is to buy the best coat you can afford. Look upon this purchase as an investment. A quality coat should last you years. A classic styled coat will never date. Take your time buying your coat and shop around.
My advice to you would be to go for a wool coat, you can add a touch of luxury with a little cashmere.
In my opinion, I would never buy something so important as a winter coat without trying it on first. Why? You need to look not only at the style but the quality and fit.
When you go shopping; consider wearing what you would wear to work or for the school run. For example, if you wear a suit for work and the coat is intended to go over your suit, then, shop wearing your work attire. This ensures that you achieve the correct fit. When considering length, look at different lengths, from hip to heel or somewhere in between. Knee length is ideal, and a flattering fitted or belted look works generally well, too for most figures. Look out for a detachable fur collar - in fashion at the moment, alternatively, add a faux fur scarf and matching Russian style hat.
A Trench coat: This is a wardrobe staple that can be worn from fall through spring. A trench looks as great with heels and a skirt as it does with jeans and boots. Some styles come with a removable lining and fur trim for the winter.
Other style options are: car coats, which a generally shorter in length and lighter weight. Quilted jackets, the kind suitable for outdoor sports, but can be bulky, although very warm. Leather, very stylish but unless it has a warm lining, leather can be quite cold. The 'Parka' - this style has been around for years and is a favourite with the younger set. The' Duffle,' this style of coat although more casual is still stylish, with toggle fasteners and hood.
Choice of colour is entirely your preference. We have seen on the catwalk the bright colours of red, (as worn by the Duchess of Cambridge recently), bright yellows, oranges and winter whites. My choice (unless I could afford one than one coat), would be either classic black or camel. These colours suit most women and in my opinion are more stylish as well as safe. An added bonus is that you can then add more colour with accessories. Jazz up with a bright scarf, or shawl, gloves, a hat, a bag, a belt,or a broach.
So much choice, enjoy your shopping experience when buying your winter coat.
